Dick Briefer's Frankenstein!

428_4_25.jpg

I think Briefer (or whoever inked this) forgot the ropes!

Dick Briefer's Frankenstein!

428_4_15.jpg

Obviously, we're still doing the humor stuff by issue 15!

428_4_16.jpg

428_4_17.jpg

428_4_18.jpg

With issue 18, we've definitely suddenly switched back to horror!

428_4_19.jpg

Apparently, some plots were used in both the humorous and serious version of the character!

Kind of looks like it went back to horror with this issue, doesn't it?

I'm not entirely convinced this is supposed to be the Monster... but that's what the seller of this item claimed when they listed it on eBay!

Dick Briefer's Frankenstein!

205_4_66.jpg

By far, the most successful Frankenstein of the comics was Prize Publications' version, created by Dick Briefer! Sometimes he was portrayed as a serious monster, and sometimes he was played for laughs (not at the same time, mind you!). I think it started out seriously, and then went to humor, and then back to horror again.

The best coverage of Dick Briefer's Frankenstein was a chapter in "The Great Comic-Book Book," which you can order below:

I'll be featuring more of this version of Frankenstein here and there in the future!
