I have these as plastic glow-in-the-dark figures? Was that a recent re-release? When were the originals put out? I'd like to post photos of the figures but would like to know more about the originals you have pictured.
The glow-in-the-dark versions are, indeed, fairly recent re-releases, I believe from the late 1980s or early 1990s. The originals were put out in the 1960s in various colors (apparently having a complete set in the same color is highly valued). They were also reissued in the 1970s, at least in Mexico... and in the 1980s or so, there was a Mexican reissue that was painted, so far as I've been able to learn!
The manufacturing year should be stamped on the bottom of the bases, should you care to look. Unfortunately, I haven't got any of those myself!
Thanks for the info! I bought them in the early '90s' so I guess they were new then, I wasn't sure. I do know that seeing them all lined up and glowing brightly at night is something that thrills not only me but my 5 year old grandson.
The Blog of Frankenstein is your daily destination for vintage Frankenstein-related goodies, including posters, lobby cards, stills, toys, and other coolness! And yes, I know that Frankenstein was the doctor, and not the monster... but the term has become such common use thanks to toys and the like over the years that I don't have a problem sometimes using "Frankenstein" to refer to the monster.
I am a former graphic designer turned medical assistant student who's into comics, sf, tv, cartoons, monsters, oldies rock, and lots of other stuff.
